ARTIST STATEMENT
"Through my work, I seek to unify our waking and sleeping selves; those mysterious passions that drive and bewitch us. I seek to heal, to inspire and to set the world aflame with truth and beauty. In my vision, this created beauty awakens our slumbering spirits and breathes emotion into our hearts."

BIO
Mary Kay Root infuses her paintings with an organic rhythm and vitality of expression; invoking connection to the matriarchal spirit. The abstract works marry the ethereal quality of the spirit realm with the exuberant beauty flowing from rivers and streams, skies and trees, rocks and stars.

Born in Illinois, raised in northern New Mexico, Root draws upon a rich cultural heritage that traces its lineage to the Tidewater Powhatans, the Eastern Band of Cherokee and the Celts. After studying with renowned Native American stone sculptor Doug Hyde, Root's stone and bronze works possess a tranquility all their own.
